How Photography Has Changed Over the Past 200 Years

Taking pictures throughout one's life has been a part of American culture for over a hundred years now. The camera was first introduced in the United States in the early 1800s and was commercialized later in the century. From the time it was first put into the American market until now, the camera and the technology of the camera has changed significantly. Also, with the camera, the items that hold the photographs have changed significantly as well. For example, picture frame lighting is now ready to highlight the photographs they hold and there is also such thing as a led picture light which in effect emphasizes the photograph. The art light is something which has most in effect changed with the technology that came with the modern day camera. However, it is the camera that has dictated these changes in the frames.

The first legal camera was invented in 1814. The big, clunky machine was used to take still life pictures in black and white. The photographs approximately always came out scratchy and faded looking, but for the time, this machine was very impressive. No one probably could have imagined how photography would have changed over the next 200 years.

Underwater Photography

The next big accomplishment in photography came with the introduction of color to the photographs in 1861. In fact, some photographs from the American Civil War can be found in color. It took awhile for color cameras to be easily ready to the public, so for the next thirty years, color photographs were still a relatively new, revolutionary technology.

A turn in the way photography was done happened when the disposable camera was invented. This camera enabled travelers to take cheap cameras on vacations without carrying a big, expensive one with them instead. Also, many of these disposable cameras were made to be waterproof, so habitancy could take photographs underwater on a snorkeling or scuba diving trip.

Next in the photography world came the introduction of the digital camera. This made it so that photographs could be taken and then loaded into the computer to be sent to habitancy via the internet or they could be sent to most drug stores to be advanced at a specific time, normally set by the customer. This new technology revolutionized the way habitancy stored and used their photographs.

Finally, today there have been many new additions to the camera technology. Cell phones now have a picture-taking capability to them. Also, there is such thing as high definition photographs, which makes the picture even clearer than it already was before this digital technique. Probably the newest thing to the world of photography is the camera that has a view on both sides of it for those who do not want to have to rely on strangers to take a picture for them and their friends. With all of these advancements coming in shorter and shorter amounts of time, it will be interesting, in the upcoming decade, to see what other changes will be made in this market.

Starter Guide to Photography

Looking for a starter guide for photography can seem admittedly easy. Go to any book store and there are dozens of books out there. Unfortunately, most of them are filled with pictures and nothing else but tiny captions with tiny value. This narrative will direct you straight through a step by step process of taking good shots.

The first step
To start, the first thing you are going to want to do is grab your camera. It doesn't matter if it's a point and shoot, a digital Slr, or your cell phones camera. After you have your camera, now you are going to want to learn all you can about how to use it. Learn what every particular button means. This is a primary step for photography. As a painter knows how to use a paint brush, you should learn how to use your camera.

Underwater Photography

Photography is much more technical than just pushing the shutter button. The more you know, the more control you have over your shot. It's nice to occasionally take an awesome shot that looks perfect, but you'll enjoy it much more when you know exactly what you did to make a photo look gorgeous and have the power to do it over and over again.

Scuba Diving - How to Get Started In Underwater Photography

While you are scuba diving, you are no doubt amazed by the beauty and grace of the underwater world and wish to share it with your family and friends who you have not been able to convince to go with you as of yet. Or maybe you just want to capture photos of your experiences so that you can keep them for your own enjoyment. No matter the reason, most habitancy have a great desire to begin learning underwater photography fairly early on in their scuba diving career.

If this sounds like you, you have likely already begun browsing your local scuba dive shops for equipment and started reading up on articles and data published by underwater photography professionals. While you can find a lot of data in this way, a lot of it is technical and hard to follow. For this reason, the best way to learn how to take pictures underwater is to start taking them and then learn through trial and error.

Underwater Photography

Your first underwater camera will likely be a disposable water-proof camera that works great for taking pictures in shallow depths. This will get you used to taking pictures underwater but is not ideal for taking photos in deep water. The next step up from this camera is the amphibious camera. This camera is small, lightweight, and ideal for beginning underwater photography in deeper waters. You can also take a general land camera, house it, and outfit it for use in underwater photography. While this is the most costly option, this is the equipment that produces the vivid, astonishing photos featured in magazines. Anyone equipment you choose, two things that you cannot take underwater photos without are an external flashgun and interchangeable lenses.

Just a Sailor: A Navy Diver's Story of Photography, Salvage, and Combat Overview

  EYES UNDER THE WATER

When Steve Waterman left home in 1964, he was looking for the most exciting job the U.S. Navy had to offer. So Waterman became an underwater photographer, joining an elite group that numbered only fifteen men in the entire navy--men always on call for unusual and interesting assignments.

Yet it was the time Waterman spent in Vietnam with Underwater Demolition Team-13 that deserves special respect. Existing in a state of adrenaline driven alertness, UDT-13 men carried out their harrowing missions. Stealthily, silently they crept through Vietnam's waterways, never knowing if the next bend in the river concealed VC patiently waiting to spring a fiery, murderous ambush.

Employing the wit and unvarnished honesty that got him into trouble more than once during his thirteen years in the navy, Waterman unfolds a compelling tale of an ordinary sailor who chose to serve his country during one of the most controversial, challenging times in its history.

Once you have your equipment, the best way to begin is to start taking pictures. Be sure to stock up on lots of film and take any shots of each subject. This way you can compare shots and learn from your own underwater photography mistakes. Here are a few tips to get you started:

Get close to your subject. One presume why underwater photography is so absorbing is that matter is suspended in the water in the middle of you and your subject. The flash reflects off of this material resulting in blurry, obstructed pictures.

Start photographing small objects first. This will allow you to preset your equipment before you dive. Use a flashgun to supply white light as monochromatic blue light is the only light that penetrates deeper water. Artificial white light is vital in underwater photography for producing sharp, colorful images.

Position your flashgun correctly. Your flashgun should be positioned a good length from the lens axis to avoid reflection of light off of suspended matter otherwise called back scatter.

After you get a feel for underwater photography, you will find that you can positively learn as you go. Take lots of film as this is the cheapest component of underwater photography. compare shots, learn from your mistakes, and you will soon be wowing your friends and family with more than stories. You'll have the photos to back them up.

Under Water Photography Tips and Techniques

The normal purpose of under water photography is to bring sea life to the surface. Most people are moving about what lives underwater and what undoubtedly goes on under the ocean surface. Underwater photographers make it their mission to capture this private world on camera and bring to those people who will never get a occasion to see it firsthand. The under water world requires a definite skills and techniques that are dissimilar from normal photography skills.

The underwater world needs to be captured up close unlike wildlife photography for example. Since the water refracts and distorts images, the closer you are to your photography subject, the less distortion you will have. A great deal of patience is required for under water photography. You may be trying to take a photo a fish or dolphin, but than they suddenly swim away before you get a occasion to. Also, water contains many particles like plankton that can cause the image to lose incompatibility and sharpness.

Underwater Photography

Using an underwater flash, or strobe, will help furnish the proper lighting indispensable for taking a great picture. Therefore, it is indispensable to use an underwater camera with a flash. This will help to bring in other colors and incompatibility them with the colors of the subject. A medium sized strobe is all that is indispensable as a large strobe can end up getting in the way.

Composition is highly important. The same basic rules apply as in quarterly photography, but you should shoot at an upward angle towards the subject. Because of the camouflage technique of most sea life, they tend to blend into their habitats. Since they do not stand out like this, they do not make good photographs. The key is to always try to get a clear shot whenever the branch blends into the ocean background.

If you are seeing to enhance your under water photography skills, you will first need to work on your photography on land. When you get to the point where you are taking great photos on land, than you can move into the more advanced world of underwater photography, where taking great pictures takes more patience and skill. Photography under water brings sea life to the covering which gives us more information about the mysterious maritime world. If you are just beginning to have an interest in under water photography you should consider taking an underwater photography policy to learn proper technique.

1. Get familiar with your camera and tool before venturing out. Read the manual and understand the settings and features it has. Also, take note of the depth and pressure your camera and tool was designed to handle.

2. Make sure to fully fee your camera's battery the night before. Download any pictures that are on your camera and memory stick to your computer so you have the maximum number of memory to take lots of pictures.

3. Before going into the water, observe your camera and make sure there isn't any grime or dust on or colse to the seals and lids for the battery room and memory stick slots. This breach could allow for water to seep in. If you are using an underwater case, check all the seals of the case, latches, buttons, etc. Then, make sure all things is concluded and sealed properly on your equipment.

4. Make sure to gain your camera and tool to your body before jumping in, like with a wrist strap. It is very easy to drop your camera when going into the water and depending on where you are, it may be quite difficult to find your camera at the bottom.

5. When you return home, make sure to clean your camera tool thoroughly. Set your camera or camera case in clean water and rub off any sediment that has accumulated. Let your tool sit and dry completely.

6. Most importantly, have fun exploring your new found world of underwater photography!
